January's New Images: Sea lion

Color photograph of a South American Sea Lion (Otaria flavescens) who are related to walruses and seals and do not have the dense underfur characteristic of fur seals. They have ear flaps, long foreflippers, and the ability to walk on all fours. They haul out of the water in large colonies on rocks and sandy shores. They move into the water to feed and cool off as needed.
